Break between study
If you have a break in your study of more than 3 weeks, your Student Loan and Student Allowance payments may stop.
Break of 3 weeks or less
If your Student Loan or Student Allowance application is:
- approved for your next block of study, your payments may be able to continue
- declined for your next block of study, you won't get payments through your break.
If you haven't applied for a loan or allowance for your next block of study after your break finishes, you may be able to extend your study without re-applying for a loan or allowance.
Change of circumstances
If you have any changes (eg, income) you need to let us know as it could affect your payments.
Break of more than 3 weeks
If you have a break of more than 3 weeks, you may be able to get the Jobseeker Support Student Hardship.
You'll need to meet the criteria which includes:
- be actively looking for full-time work, unless you have a health condition
- be intending to study full-time within the next 16 weeks.
Read the full criteria and find out how to apply on the 'Jobseeker Support Student Hardship' page.
Go overseas
If you go overseas, you may be able to get help from us, it depends why you're going and how long for.
