Working while studying
If you work while you study, it can help to pay for some of your costs and reduce the amount you need to borrow. Your income could affect your payments and you need to make sure you're using the right tax code.
Important information
How much you earn could:
- affect when you have to start paying back your Student Loan
- mean you may get less for your Student Allowance.

Tax codes
Find out what your tax code should be
If you're working, check you're using the right tax code with Inland Revenue (don't forget the Student Allowance is also counted as income). If you're getting a Student Loan, you need to make sure the right deductions are being made to repay it.
Special deduction rate
If you think that your Student Loan deductions are too high, you may be able to apply for a special deduction rate from Inland Revenue.
