Extending childcare when your child turns 5
If your child's going to a school where children start when they turn 5, but they can't start straight away, we may be able to pay for an extra 4 weeks of childcare.
Who can extend their childcare payments
There could be a number of reasons why your child can’t start school straight away, eg, the school’s closed because it’s the middle of the school/Christmas holidays.
Whatever your situation, we may be able to pay an extra 4 weeks of childcare if:
- you’re getting Childcare Subsidy
- your child’s going to a school where children start when they turn 5, instead of at the beginning of the term closest to their 5th birthday
- your child can’t start school straight away
- you continue to meet the criteria for Childcare Subsidy until your child starts school.

Getting Child Disability Allowance
If you get Child Disability Allowance for your child and they’re not starting school yet, we may be able to keep paying your childcare until they start – up until they turn 6.
