Pick up papers

If you pick up papers, you need to let us know straight away as your payments could be affected.

Picking up papers means you could change from part-time to full-time study.

We use a measurement called EFTS (Equivalent Full-time Student) to work out if you're studying full-time or part-time.

What are EFTS?

Email us or call us

If you have additional fees that need to be paid, let us know. We'll organise to pay these through your Student Loan. If you don't already have a Student Loan you'll need to apply online for one.

If you've changed from part-time to full-time study, you may be able to get:

  • a Student Allowance (a weekly payment to help with day-to-day living expenses that you don't have to pay back)
  • course-related costs from a Student Loan
  • living costs from a Student Loan (a weekly payment that you'll have to pay back).

You can apply online for a Student Allowance or Student Loan (if you don't already have one).

If you've already applied for a Student Allowance and it was declined, we'll send you a letter to let you know what you need to do.

If you already have a Student Loan, you don't need to submit a new application. You can claim for course-related costs or update your living costs in MyStudyLink.

On a benefit

If you're going into full-time study, you may not be able to stay on your benefit. You need to talk to Work and Income about how it will affect your payments.
