When you turn 40, the number of weeks you can get a Student Allowance for will drop from 200 weeks (around 5 years) to 120 weeks (around 3 years). This includes any weeks of Student Allowance you've had before.
What you need to do
If you're getting a Student Allowance and you turn 40, you can keep getting it until your application finishes, even if it goes over the 120 weeks. But the next time you apply, you won't be able to get a Student Allowance.
You don't need to do anything. We'll send you a letter to let you know how many weeks you've got left.
