Changes to payments from 1 April 2025

19 March 2025.

On 1 April 2025 student support rates will increase due to the Annual General Adjustment. Income and asset limits for some support will also go up, which means more people can get support from us.

What's changing

On 1 April student support rates will increase, including Student Allowances and Student Loan Living Costs.

Changes to Student Allowance payments will happen automatically, you don't need to do anything. If you've requested for your Student Loan to be adjusted automatically each year, you don't need to do anything either.

  • Childcare Assistance
  • Disability Allowance
  • Community Services Card, and
  • help with urgent and unexpected costs.

This year 1 April is a Tuesday.

  • In the week of 31 March your payment will be at the old rate. This is because we pay you for the week that's just been.
  • In the week of 7 April you’ll get part of your payment at the old rate, and part at the new.
  • In the week of 14 April your whole payment will be at the new, increased rate.

You can view your new payment rates in MyStudyLink from 1 April 2025.

MyStudyLink

The Annual General Adjustment happens every year on 1 April. On this day some financial supports are adjusted to account for the cost of living (inflation) or average wage growth.

The new rates are based on either the:

  • Consumer Price Index (2.22% rise), or
  • net average wage (3.51% rise).
