Secondary school
Our definition for secondary school.
A secondary school provides instruction at the second level of compulsory education, from Year 9 to Year 13. NCEA (the National Certificate of Educational Achievement) is the main secondary school qualification in New Zealand.
A secondary school may be:
- a distance school, or
- a school designated as a distance school, or
- a specialist school (eg, for high needs students).
Home schooling
If you have permission to be home schooled, you don't have to attend a secondary school, however you won't be able to get a Student Allowance.
