Declaring income

If you or your partner get any income, regardless of how much it is, you need to tell us straight away as it could affect your payments.

Important information

If you don’t tell us about your income, we may pay you too much and you’ll have a debt to pay back.

How to tell us about your income depends on what payment you're getting.

What payment are you getting?

You can update your income online, in MyStudyLink.

You need to tell us:

  • each week that your income changes
  • by the Sunday of the week you earn it or you may have a debt to pay back.

If you have a partner who isn't studying, you can also update their income online, in MyStudyLink.

If you have a partner who is studying and getting Student Allowance, they can update their income in their own MyStudyLink account. Otherwise they can email us or call us

If you get holiday pay:

Holiday pay is counted as income for the week that you get it. If it's paid:

  • as part of your weekly income (including when you're on annual leave), you need to tell us the total amount of income you get each week
  • as a lump sum after you leave your job, you need to tell us the total amount you get for the week that you get it.

If we ask you to provide evidence of your income, you can upload it using Connect
