Getting the Cost of Living payment
19 May 2022.
The Government has announced a new Cost of Living payment, as part of Budget 2022. This is a payment of $350 in total, spread over August, September and October. It's for people earning up to $70,000 a year, who can't get the Winter Energy Payment.
This is a temporary payment from Inland Revenue.
If you're a student aged 18 years or over, you may be eligible for the Cost of Living payment, even if you're getting a Student Allowance or Student Loan living costs.
You don't have to do anything to get this payment. Inland Revenue works out if you're eligible, and pays it straight into your bank account.
The Cost of Living payment won't affect:
- Accommodation Supplement
- Temporary Additional Support
- Special Needs Grant
- Student Allowance
- Working for Families
- Childcare Assistance
- Child Support
- Student Loan repayments for the year after the payment is made.
