Student Loan borrowing limits increasing for long programmes
26 October 2018.
This year the government announced it would increase borrowing limits for students in undergraduate programmes that take longer, like medicine or dentistry.
Students in long programmes can sometimes reach their Student Loan borrowing limit before finishing their qualification. This increase will help cover the extra time it takes for them to finish.
Students may get up to 3 more EFTS towards finishing their qualifications.
You need to be studying one of these long undergraduate qualifications:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
- Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom)
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or Bachelor of Dentistry with Honours (BDS Hons)
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc).
Applications for 2019 study are open now. If you’re starting your 2019 study in late 2018, you can also apply.
The borrowing limits for postgraduate and doctoral study will stay the same.
